Schnopsn is the app version of Schnapsen (Sixty-Six / 66), Austria's most-loved trick-taking card game – free on phone, tablet and PC. Play classic two-player Schnapsen the way you would at the tavern table: live online against real opponents from Austria, Hungary, Germany and across Europe, or offline against the computer to sharpen your tactics. 66 is easy to learn but tactically deep – remember the cards, call your 20s and 40s, close the talon at the right moment and be first to 66 points. The one differentiator: a huge, active Schnapsen community with daily, weekly and monthly tournaments, ELO leaderboards and a dedicated team-league mode.

Also known as: Schnapsen, Sechsundsechzig, Sixty-Six, 66, Snapszer, Snapszli, Cruce, Šnaps, Šnops, Snops, Santase, Soixante-six

How to play

  1. Deck & cards: Two-player Schnapsen uses 20 cards. Values: Ace = 11, Ten = 10, King = 4, Queen = 3, Jack = 2. Goal: be first to 66 points.
  2. Deal: Each player gets five cards. The top card of the stock is turned face-up to set the trump suit; the remaining stock (talon) is placed crosswise over it.
  3. Lead: The non-dealer leads the first trick. While the talon is open, you do not have to follow suit.
  4. Winning a trick: Highest card of the led suit wins, unless a trump was played – then the highest trump wins.
  5. Marriages (20 / 40): Holding King + Queen of the same suit lets you call 20 (or 40 in the trump suit) when you play one of those two cards.
  6. Trump-Jack swap: You may swap the Jack of trumps for the face-up trump card (optionally automatic).
  7. Closing (zudrehen): You can close the talon; from then on you must follow suit and no more cards are drawn. Reaching 66 wins the deal.
  8. Folding: Throwing your hand for the deal lets the opponent immediately score 66 and you lose that deal.
  9. Scoring (game points): On reaching 66 you score 1 game point if the opponent has 33+ card points; 2 if the opponent took at least one trick but has 0–32; 3 if the opponent took no trick at all. A run of deals makes up a Bummerl.

Frequently asked questions

Is Schnopsn free?

Yes. It is a free online card game, playable online and offline at no cost. An optional Premium (Ad-free) subscription is available.

Are there ads, and what does Premium include?

The free version shows ads (e.g. after games). There is one paid subscription — Premium, also called Ad-free (30 days or 1 year) — which removes all ads and also grants double daily credits plus premium features: hide your game history, custom backgrounds and images in messages.

Can I play offline / against the computer?

Yes. Offline mode lets you practice against the AI for free, with no connection and no waiting.

How does multiplayer / playing with friends work?

Online mode pits you live against real players. Challenge friends directly to a Bummerl, join a tournament via tournament code, or team up in a league season in team mode.

What are tournament and team modes?

Daily, weekly and monthly tournaments with leaderboards. In team mode you create or join a team (5–20 players) and play a 10-day league season (with a 4-day Pre-Season) for the title.

I'm missing credits / didn't get my daily reward — what do I do?

Daily credits come from the daily wheel/bonus (doubled with Premium). If a reward wasn't credited, contact us via in-app Help/Support and it can be checked and corrected.

My account was locked / I can't log in — why?

Locks usually result from rule violations or community protection. If you think it's a mistake, contact in-app support; the case can be reviewed and a lock lifted if warranted.

My opponent quit / the AI game froze — do I lose points?

If an opponent quits mid-Bummerl the deal is scored normally. For a frozen game or wrongly deducted points, contact support — Bummerl can be neutralized when a technical fault is confirmed.

How do Schnopsn Teams and seasons work?

In Teams mode, 5–20 players band together and compete in a 10-day season, preceded by a 4-day pre-season where teams form. Teams are sorted into leagues of 100, and the top 20 of each league (below the first) are promoted for the next season.

What is the difference between Schnapsen and 66 (Sixty-Six)?

In Austria the names are often used interchangeably, but strictly speaking Schnapsen is the Austrian 20-card game (no Nines, five cards per hand), while Sechsundsechzig / 66 is the German 24-card variant (with Nines, six cards per hand). Both are two-player trick-taking games where you call 20s and 40s and race to 66 card points. Schnopsn plays the Austrian 20-card Schnapsen.

Does Schnopsn include Bauernschnapsen (4-player Schnapsen)?

No. Schnopsn is dedicated to classic two-player Schnapsen (66). Bauernschnapsen is a different game: a four-player team variant with contracts and calls (Schnapser, Gangl, Bauernschnapser). It is not a game mode inside Schnopsn. DonkeyCat is building it as its own app, Bauernschnopsn Online, which is in development and not yet released.
